(Above) End of a 4-hour marathon night and the dance floor is still absolutely having a good time! Huge shoutout to our wicked dancers for rocking out with us until the very last note. 🎸🔥

 The Mixdown Edition

The Vibe: From Smashburgers to the Pocket

We kicked off the night grabbing a quick bite at NADC Burger in downtown Round Rock at 6:30, but we still managed to be plugged in, dialed, and rolling tape at Studio 3603 by 7:45 PM. That’s the kind of locked-in energy we brought to this session. The burgers were fabulous!

The Focus: Upgrading the Audio Archive

We didn't just let the tape roll during this session to keep ourselves sharp—we put that recorded tracking to work. While the initial sneak peek gave a raw look into our setlist brainstorming, this updated cut features our actual post-production audio mixed down and layered directly over the practice footage. Having access to the multi-tracks completely changes the game for how we can present our sound online.

The Track: "Use Me"

The groove for this one is locked in deep. Layering the polished audio over the video captures the driving, classic funk energy exactly the way it feels standing in the room. From the pocket to the vocals ("You love me until you use me..."), it’s a perfect showcase of the grit and tightness we are demanding out of our full setlist run-throughs.

The Strategy: Building the Digital Blueprint

Establishing this workflow—capturing raw video, recording the full room audio, and mixing it down for a quick-turnaround release—is officially our new blueprint. It gives venue owners and fans an authentic, high-quality look at Small Town Famous in our element, proving we are putting in the work behind the scenes to deliver a massive live show.

The Focus: Setlist Architecture This session wasn't about drilling individual tracks; it was all about the big picture. We ran through our working setlists to test the flow, feeling out exactly where each song belongs. A great live show is all about building the right energy, and we are dialing in the pacing to make sure the transitions hit perfectly from the first note of the night to the last.

The Process: Everything on Record We hit record on the entire practice this time around. There is something about knowing the tape is rolling that completely focuses the room. Not only does it push the performance, but it also gives us a massive audio archive of the session to pull from for future mixdowns and video projects.

The Highlight: Going Live We captured and published another piece of raw rehearsal footage directly to the site, officially making these live sneak peeks a regular pattern for us. Laying into that classic, deep funk groove of “Use Me” was a massive highlight. It is the perfect snippet to show exactly what kind of sound and energy we are building inside the studio.

Dialing it in at Studio 3603

Monday night’s rehearsal was one of those nights where everything just clicks. We ran through three full setlists, completely locked in the pacing, and the energy in the room was electric.

We’ve been testing out some new video gear to document our process, so here is a raw, live, behind-the-scenes look. You get to see the full progression—from the chorus, to panning the room, and finally locking in on Ben as he tears up a solo right in front of the lens. We are currently dialing in the exact live sound for the room, which means you're hearing the absolute raw audio here. Next week, we are formally recording the track so Tim can work his magic on the mixing board.

The live shows are going to be massive, but there is something really special about these intimate garage nights.

Inside the Room: Finding the Flow

There is a specific moment at the start of every session at Studio 3603 when the outside world fades away. After a traditional toast with lime, the room dims, the stage lights flare up, and we immediately shift out of "practice" mode and straight into a live concert mindset. We stand in position, treat the room like a packed venue, and let the music take over.

Lately, the energy in the studio has been incredibly inspired, largely driven by the brilliant addition of Wayne on keyboards. He’s opened up a whole new sonic landscape for us. Last night, we purposely dialed into a classic, vintage-heavy set list specifically to give Wayne’s keys and Ben’s soaring guitar work the runway they deserve.

The Standout Moments

The Elton John Breakthrough: Last week, Wayne casually teased some Elton John on the keys. By last night, all of us came in completely locked and loaded, ready to dive straight into it. We ran three Elton John tracks right after our standard "Use Me" soundcheck, and the resulting blend of piano, groove, and vocal harmonies was nothing short of gorgeous.

Pocket Perfection: There are certain tracks where the chemistry just locks instantly. Rolling Stones' "Beast of Burden" and Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb" have officially reached that "effortless" stage where the pocket is deep, the solos can stretch, and we are just playing off each other’s instincts.

On the Radar This Weekend

We don't just play together; we show up for each other. You can catch the lineup out in the wild across Central Texas this weekend before we reconvene for a marathon set-list rehearsal on Monday:

Ben is taking the stage in Waco this Saturday night with Wicked Vixxen.

Wayne is holding down the keys with Vinyl Countdown at the historic Georgetown Square on Friday night—and you can bet the rest of the band (and spouses!) will be right up front cheering him on.

Behind the Scenes: Mapping the Set

Every great performance starts with a blueprint. Last week at Studio 3603 was all about mapping out the sonic journey of a true Small Town Famous show. We treat our multi-hour master catalog like a study in crowd psychology—building the momentum, locking in the dance pocket, and knowing exactly when to hit the audience with an unexpected, nostalgic punch to keep the floor packed from the first downbeat to the final encore.

Capturing the Chemistry

Ben snapped an incredible shot of the lineup mid-session last week that perfectly captures the focus and intensity we bring to the room. When those house lights go down and the stage rigs click on, the atmosphere shifts instantly. Every rehearsal is executed with the same precision, vocal power, and instrumental focus as a headline festival date. The chemistry is locked in, the arrangements are dialed, and the foundation is officially set.
