The Rehearsal Log

Inside the Room: Finding the Flow

There is a specific moment at the start of every session at Studio 3603 when the outside world fades away. After a traditional toast with lime, the room dims, the stage lights flare up, and we immediately shift out of "practice" mode and straight into a live concert mindset. We stand in position, treat the room like a packed venue, and let the music take over.

Lately, the energy in the studio has been incredibly inspired, largely driven by the brilliant addition of Wayne on keyboards. He’s opened up a whole new sonic landscape for us. Last night, we purposely dialed into a classic, vintage-heavy set list specifically to give Wayne’s keys and Ben’s soaring guitar work the runway they deserve.

The Standout Moments

The Elton John Breakthrough: Last week, Wayne casually teased some Elton John on the keys. By last night, all of us came in completely locked and loaded, ready to dive straight into it. We ran three Elton John tracks right after our standard "Use Me" soundcheck, and the resulting blend of piano, groove, and vocal harmonies was nothing short of gorgeous.

Pocket Perfection: There are certain tracks where the chemistry just locks instantly. Rolling Stones' "Beast of Burden" and Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb" have officially reached that "effortless" stage where the pocket is deep, the solos can stretch, and we are just playing off each other’s instincts.

On the Radar This Weekend

We don't just play together; we show up for each other. You can catch the lineup out in the wild across Central Texas this weekend before we reconvene for a marathon set-list rehearsal on Monday:

Ben is taking the stage in Waco this Saturday night with Wicked Vixxen.

Wayne is holding down the keys with Vinyl Countdown at the historic Georgetown Square on Friday night—and you can bet the rest of the band (and spouses!) will be right up front cheering him on.

The Rehearsal Log

Behind the Scenes: Mapping the Set

Every great performance starts with a blueprint. Last week at Studio 3603 was all about mapping out the sonic journey of a true Small Town Famous show. We treat our multi-hour master catalog like a study in crowd psychology—building the momentum, locking in the dance pocket, and knowing exactly when to hit the audience with an unexpected, nostalgic punch to keep the floor packed from the first downbeat to the final encore.

Capturing the Chemistry

Ben snapped an incredible shot of the lineup mid-session last week that perfectly captures the focus and intensity we bring to the room. When those house lights go down and the stage rigs click on, the atmosphere shifts instantly. Every rehearsal is executed with the same precision, vocal power, and instrumental focus as a headline festival date. The chemistry is locked in, the arrangements are dialed, and the foundation is officially set.
